I was a personal trainer at a local gym in town. I was so wrapped up in the best way to put on muscle mass I turned off any common sense and chased the dream of being the next 300 pound Ronnie Coleman. I couldn’t tell you when it was exactly that I realized how ridiculous spending 3 hours a night in the gym (never sweating) actually was. Perhaps it was when I discovered that I couldn’t run a mile without stopping? Who knows?
I tried my first CrossFit workout, Fran, and finished in about 13:30. Anyone out there that comes in this gym should realize that the coaches have been in the exact same shoes as you and pushed through it. You should be able to also!
Since starting CrossFit, I’ve dropped about 20 pounds off my frame and can now do things like 5K’s and muscle-ups with no problem whatsoever. Another cool thing, every one of my lifts has gone up! I’ve put 70 + pounds on a back squat and over 100 pounds with the deadlift! CrossFit has entirely transformed my life and I hope I can be a part of a business that does this for other people!

I grew up here in Lubbock, TX and have always had a special interest for health and fitness. I was raised going to a globo gym, playing in the daycare, where my dad worked out daily. However I lost interest early in the kid area and was eager to start exercising in the “big” gym. Once I was old enough, around 12 years, my dad started allowing me to tag along to workout with him at 5:00am. (My dad and step mom are now both VERY involved in CrossFit).
I luckily have never lost this fascination with exercising. I was a cheerleader and a gymnast as well as a runner in cross-country, and on my own time I lifted free weights at the gym; combining all of these, I would end up spending 3 to 4 hours working out daily. About a year after I met Cody and we had both been doing our typical gym routines, he introduced me to CrossFit. I quickly fell in love with what it was and what it stood for! It is a mixture of everything, bettering you all around – not just in specific areas. Even though I had always made an effort to eat healthy and exercise, I have still seen results from CrossFit. I have lost size and am now more toned and much stronger than ever.
Also when I was in cross-country, right before I switched to CrossFit, we had to run once to twice daily. I got a lot better at running in cross-country but my improvements stalled and continued to stay the same, but since CrossFit I have dropped nearly a minute on my mile time and am still improving.
I love the CrossFit atmosphere and how I can workout with family and friends and have the opportunity to meet new friends. It helps that we are all there for the same reason, struggling with similar challenges and how we support and encourage each other. I see CrossFit not as something I have to do to stay in shape, but something I want to do; it is more of a hobby or a sport – I love to be involved and it is something I look forward to!
CrossFit has also given me the most amazing opportunity, which is to have the chance to reach out to others and help them to exceed in life by becoming healthier and more functionally fit.
